What is it with poets?

What is it with poets today?

Should poets be content
Singing eternal or unrequited love,
Either declaiming an epic drama or
Shouting about the atrocities of war
Depending on which side they are,
Lauding glorious hymns to powers
Be they real or heavenly,
Denouncing the ubiquitous injustice of this world,
Reporting human misery
Or existing kindness and compassion,
Elaborate on impossible dreams and aspirations,
Painting the universal beauty
As well as the destructive blind cruelty of nature?
Those are the many voices
That poets have used in the past
Albeit are these still relevant today?
For who is listening to their voice
And has the luxury of time?
