promenade in Hotham

In the year of 1877
The good burgesses of Hotham
Provided a drinking fountain
For their constituency
And as there is
No such thing as a free drink
They did not forget to admonish
Their electorate by adding
Keep the pavement dry!

Look at the English coat of arms
On top of the pediment!
But the times were moving
As the central figure of the fountain shows
The Kangaroo and not Queen Victoria.

Why has the borough changed its name?

Does Eureka Stockade ring a bell?
