Are we to let them do it again?

Sometimes I want to give up on Australians,
Their lack of compassion is incommensurable.
A deep unconscious resonance runs between
Their gutted parched up continent
And their mental inability to offer kindness
Or generosity to another human being in distress.
They turn their ingenuity into callous cruelty
Transforming the forced detention of onshore processing
Into the current atrocious offshore processing
And from today are to make it worse by dumping it
To become another country heartache.
When you believe you've reached the bottom
Another level of mental harshness is revealed
You just have to look at their criminal treatment
Of asylum seekers and refugees.
Are we to let them do it again?

Fortress Mentality

No wonder the Australian people
Have got into this fortress mentality
With the Asylum Refugees boat people,
As for them getting through life
Is simply too dangerous
As soon as they live home.
When one drives off the main
Highways, one is met
With signs mentioning
That the area is one of great risk,
No wonder one finds oneself
Alone only a short journey off Melbourne
Even in holidays period.
The state is advertising the danger
Of travelling in bushfire season,
The message is clear
Keep to the town
The country is dangerous,
So the habit is formed and entrenched
Everything outside one's own suburb
Is dangerous thus including outsiders.

Of Storms

Sometimes in a storm
The weather pauses
And the sun shines and the wind dies
Letting a few people time to take refuge
In a safe harbour .
Rest and respite is then offered
But the question arises then
To continue onwards or to stay put?
Safety is a quest for travellers
Security is a quest for refugees
Where and when is the trip deemed
To finish positively if ever?
Millions daily ask,
Turning their sight to the sky
Where the clouds are reforming
Pushed by the stormy wind
Hoping the next maelstrom
Will change direction and avoid them.
