The hipster dilemna

Picture a young hipster
With a white rolled umbrella
Walking confidently down the street
Holding and talking into a mobile
The proper incarnation of fashionable dignity
Allied with successful business.
When a squall arrives
He looks seriously at his brolly
And at the sky falling above him
And decides to keep walking
Gets drenched by the time
He's turned the corner.
Obviously a status symbol
To be kept at all cost
And the function be damned!
Truthfully have you ever seen
A real business man
With an open umbrella?
A real business man
Just does not get caught
Under a shower when crossing
The street. Full stop!

Bon Dieu!
Sincèrement  avez-vous jamais vu
Un homme d'affaires réel
Avec un parapluie ouvert?
Un homme d'affaires réel
Sait  ne pas se faire attraper
Par une ondée dans la rue.
Un point c'est tout!

Plenty Road

On Plenty road there's a lot,
Of traffic, to be sure at present.
What with the public works
Delays and more are to be expected
On an hourly basis.
A short trip to town, for
What are after all thirty five kilometres,
If not a short distance,
Will set you back of
One and half hour
Of a bumper to bumper drive
In sun, shine or rain
It really puts a dumper on
Anyone mood.
One does not know if the traffic lights
Are winning over the trees
But there are a lot of them
Thats for sure!
It's finding its way
Through busy suburbs at first
Then rolling freely between
Orchards and paddocks
Before going over the range.
I quite understand why
It wants to escape anarchic
Urban development!

First anniversary

It's our first anniversary!
Congrats are in!
We've survived one year in Melbourne!
We have partook of students digs
Taken on the typical lifestyle
From alley cafés to cheap eats
Mostly Asian but delicious
Walking everywhere
Making a statement concerning
Our footprint mindless that it cost
Less not to have a car
Shopping in the numerous factory outlets
Or trying the different markets
If only for obvious economic reasons
Going to free community and cultural events
That's the advantage of being in capital city
Enjoying the parks and available green spaces
And you know what it was good
As long as it lasted!

Six-thirty, Friday evening

Friday night, six-thirty pm,
The cars are in and out
The car park,
Their light switched on,
But barely lighting their way,
Most of them of indistinct colour
In that twilight hour and low cloud cover
They are frenetically turning around
Swishing that way or this way
Until they find an open bay
Where to park.
Most of them contain two to four people
This must be quite a popular venue
As the car park is filling rapidly
What is the name of the pub?
You have it wrong, this is Bunnings!
Gee, how much the Aussie psyche
Has changed in thirty years!

A girls' afternoon

Two cups of coffee, bad idea
Give me the shakes.
Put a bit of lippy and mascara
Add a spot of perfume
I'm on my way to meet my daughter
For a girls afternoon out
Grab a quick chicken teriyaki
And hit the shops
Mainly window shopping
Funds being inexistent
As far as I am concerned.
Catching up with all the gossip
Discussing what's on and what's not.
Time for tea break
Hot Italian chocolate for her
Smooth and rich and a lemonade for me.
Walking back home slowly
As the sunny afternoon disappears
And fatigue sets in.
What a lovely arvo that was.

Lèche-vitrine principalement
Quelle belle après-midi.
