A black and white kind of day

Yin and yang symbol
Is usually an intellectual principle
As far as I am concerned,
For an unknown  reason
White and black kept appearing
All day long, today :
A black swan with a white spot
Under his raised wing.
A warbling magpie,
A strutting kurrawong .
Not to forget the small
White and black territorial bird
That sits on the fence
And keeps flying in the window
Day in day out,
Overlooked by the large
Black and white neighbourly cat.
Today turned out
To be a black and white
Kind of day, if I may say so!

The call of the bell-bird

The bell-bird calls welcome us
As soon as we enter the gardens.
It beckons to us to explore them
Despite the grey sky and icy wind
Within the protection of the large trees
Bringing some echoes from long ago
Of the Blue Mountains.
The heady scent of the wattles
Hits us and refreshes us
Here is a kind, calmer space.
The camellias are in full bloom
And show abundantly their clashing colours.
In the hot house the orchids
Display their glorious inflorescences.
The birds’ calls beckon us
To leave this artificial world
To look at their mating games
When suddenly we discover
Another of the decorated elephants
They pop up in the most
Unexpected places.
It is time to return
And the sad cry of the crow
Tells us how sorry it sees us go.

Is it already the season?

Wordle: Is it already the season?

I don't know why and how
But the magpies are very aggressive
At present, swooping on one's head
As soon as they perceive a potential threat
On their territory.
By the ditch there were five of them
Attacking a beige duckling
The car disturbed them
Giving it an escape
And time enough to find refuge
I hope it survived their attack.
It seems surprising that the magpies
Are already nesting so early in winter
But here by the sea the weather is kinder
Than on the Northern Tableland Ranges.
I don't know if it is due to a clement day
But even the Yellow Crested Cockatoos
Are fighting with the Gallas today.
So many questions come to mind
And so few answers!

Daylesford Lake Sunset Walk

Wordle: Daylesford Lake Sunset Walk
Sunset walk around the Daylesford lake
No tourists at that time.
Smells of the pines and eucalyptus
On top of the smoke
Are wafting around us
While the birds are starting
To think about homing
For the night.
The magpies are loudly bickering to find
A place nearby a comely mate.
The geese are honking on the misty islands
While the kookaburras
Are sitting laughingly
On a branch all in a row.
A lonely bat is flying seemingly erratically
Against the darkening sky
Dogs are barking at the falling night
In the distance just for the sake of it.
The resorts bay windows and courtyards
Are alight with fairy lights and heavy chandeliers
The smokey scent of burning iron wood
Hangs heavily in the night sky by now
And the air is turning icy
Time to return to our lodgings.

Bloque massivement toute autre odeur

The Seagulls

Wordle: The Seagulls
First wintery sun in a week and
Like a  row of statues standing on an Italian villa terrace
The seagulls were aligned
In  a row over the flat roofs
Over the shops in the Queen Victoria’s market alley
Forced famished by a week of bad weather
Having kept the human punters away
They were waiting in the winter sun
For any leftovers they could gorge upon
As soon as spotted by their piercing eyesight
Everything became a potential feast
To be tasted and gulped down after a short bickering
Even the onion rings quickly rejected had been
The subject of a sharp dispute
And some impressive wing swatting
Conspicuous by their absence
The pigeons and the sparrows
Usual owners of this territory
But the seagull mafia was in control this morning .

Wordle: Les mouettes

The sparrows

Wordle: The sparrows
Sunday afternoon waiting to be served
In a local Japanese restaurant
The people in the queue are young
All students by the look of it
All involved in their own thoughts
With the music blaring killing
Any attempt to intelligent communication.
A massive chandelier hangs from the steels rafters.
A bulb is missing on the chandelier
But it does not care about it
As it has won lately
A few more decorations.
Live ones consisting in three live
Small brown common birds
Coming and going through
The open door to rest
And fluff themselves on its circumvallated branches.
The second kind of decoration is not so lovely
As the birds fly in and out they also
Make unwanted droppings on its branches
And on the tables and chairs underneath.
The food is cheap and abundant
The place is indie
So the waiting crowd does not seem to mind
That the place is not spick and span.
Questions run through my idle mind
How is this possible in a modern town?
What about the bird flu scare of a few years ago?
But then if one eats outside as it is common
To do on the Melburnians terraces cafes and restaurants
One would have the same problems
And one can't even complain about
Rogues sparrows profiteering from
The outside heaters and left over food.
So let them be, they do not disturb
The patrons as they know that they will
Gorge swiftly on any leftovers.

No, sorry the sky is not yellow

Wordle: No, sorry the sky is not yellow
No, sorry the sky is not yellow
Neither is the sea for that matter
Nor my morning coffee
It is better that the lawn is not yellow
Although it can be in late summer
As the leaves before falling in autumn
I prefer my king parrots not to be yellow
If you don't mind
As a matter of fact
Yellow is not my favourite colour
Even when it is described by the word golden.
