Ballarat

Wordle: Ballarat
Ballarat,of proud history,
Eureka Stockade for memory,
If I am right,
Has surprisingly enough,
For me anyway,
A full standing Queen Victoria Statue
With a golden victory on her globe!
Oh men of little memory!
The gold rush certainly
Did put Ballarat on the map
Once again pushing out the natives.
Ballarat the fifth largest town
Within the Australian country side
Proud of its two universities
Of its Cultural life so early celebrated
In Her Majesty's theatre
And in fact today we saw
A movie staged in the fifties being filmed.
I don't know about the glamour industry
Everyone was frozen in the icy wind
Waiting to play their part.
But art was reigning
As the traffic has been closed
To allow for the filming.
The botanical gardens
Splendidly reflected the belief
Of the earlier generations
In the future of their town
And the beautiful villas surround
A lake filled once again.

Wordle: Ballarat F
Ballarat à la fière histoire,
La Stockade Eureka pour mémoire,
Si je me rappelle bien,
La ruée vers l'or certainement

Love and Devotion

Love and Devotion exhibition
Was mind boggling by the devotion shown
To the art of miniature by the unknown artists
I wished I had a magnifier glass
In order to study more of the fine details
In the frames of the paintings.
The cross cultural references were amazing
Across different times and peoples.
Of the seven paintings describing
The wives of the one sultan
Only one did not include music
Amongst the pleasures therein comprised.
It reminded me of the Dame à la licorne
Exploration of the seven senses.
How Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry
Look so amateurish in comparison with
The miniatures displayed today!
Although it showed daily activities
Such as hunting for food and sport
And the usual glorification of war
It also included the pleasures and delights
Of education, poetry, discussion
Music, dance and love.
What a breath of culture from the Greeks,
Mongols, Persians, Turks, Indians and Chinese.
It also illustrated the arrival
Of the Western Europeans
In those far flown countries.
One becomes a witness to history
While perusing those manuscripts.
What a lovely way to travel
In the past and far away.

Collins Street Temples

Move over Religion,
Here comes Money
It has entered your temples.
In Collins Street
We have visited the vault
Or should I call it
The crypt of the funds sanctuary.

From the blue stone of the paving and plinths
To pink polished, honed and flamed granite,
With its golden mosaic floors inset in marble paving
And natural sandstone for its facade
The most beautiful and expensive ingredients
Were used to built that idolic temple.

Highlighted by gold leaves
The buffs, creams, oranges, terracotta
And olive green decorations
Of the copper domes
Transports one in time and space
To old Europe, in the Medicis Firenze.
A temple of money there is no doubt.

But this is not the only one as
A bit further along the street is
With a mock gothic cathedral facade
Hiding once again a mundane bank.

Dégage la religion,
Voici l'argent
