A happy ending

A happy ending
All's well that ends well!
A small incident in a US school yard,
A depressed kid brought a gun in,
Fired two shots in the ceiling,
Was tackled by the new PE teacher
Who becomes a hero
End of story!
It did not make the news
But one should reminder oneself
One only needs a finger
To pull a trigger!
So another day the PE teacher
May not be so lucky
And the counting will continue
In the last decade
More than forty thousand have died
When the right to defend oneself
Turned into the right to kill others!
While a small country town has been wiped out!

An English Corner

In little Paris of Melbourne
A little English corner
Treasury Place surely is.
Look at the pictures
Not only the buildings
Are in the Bath Style
The gardens follow the English pattern
The deciduous trees alleys
Lead you to thick greens lawns.
The coat of arms on the main building
Is the franco-english one
Honni soit qui mal y pense
Accompanied by  Dieu est mon droit.
They are proudly displayed
The home country is forever strong here
This is the second building I see in Melbourne
Displaying her Majesty Arms.
Only towards the end of the road
The Commonwealth building dares
To display a very inferior Aussie coat of arms
On a building whose entrance imitates
The prison gates of the Tower on the Thames.
We are still a colony,
Just open your eyes.
No wonder we are suffering
Of a cultural cringe.

Love and Devotion

Love and Devotion exhibition
Was mind boggling by the devotion shown
To the art of miniature by the unknown artists
I wished I had a magnifier glass
In order to study more of the fine details
In the frames of the paintings.
The cross cultural references were amazing
Across different times and peoples.
Of the seven paintings describing
The wives of the one sultan
Only one did not include music
Amongst the pleasures therein comprised.
It reminded me of the Dame à la licorne
Exploration of the seven senses.
How Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry
Look so amateurish in comparison with
The miniatures displayed today!
Although it showed daily activities
Such as hunting for food and sport
And the usual glorification of war
It also included the pleasures and delights
Of education, poetry, discussion
Music, dance and love.
What a breath of culture from the Greeks,
Mongols, Persians, Turks, Indians and Chinese.
It also illustrated the arrival
Of the Western Europeans
In those far flown countries.
One becomes a witness to history
While perusing those manuscripts.
What a lovely way to travel
In the past and far away.

ANZAC

Wordle: ANZAC DAY

ANZAC national holiday
For Australians celebrating
The massacre of wars
Fought on alien lands
In foreign wars for foreign countries .
Should I start by Gallipoli
The original battle
Where  Aussies  and Kiwis
Lost so many
But much less than
The Brits and the French or the Turks
For that matter.
Each passing year
My disgust for the imbecility
Of it grows with the number
Of young dead soldiers
Killed in not so glorious battles
Or even worse in collateral damages.
Once dead they attain
The status of heroes.
Who remember the heroes
Fallen in Vietnam, Korea,
Iraq and Afghanistan ?
Once dead they enter
The field of forgotten lest.
ANZAC day celebrations are supposed to
Laud them once again
For the sacrifice of their life
For the mother country.
Why, may I ask, or what
Rather made their sacrifice imperative?
Which part of Australia was under attack
That thousands of men had to forfeit
Over the years their life ?
No, they went to war for the benefit
Of another country idealistic avidity.
Then if it is really to celebrate
The stupidity of war
Let's celebrate in that case
All the armed forces and not
Only the massacre of the Anglo-Saxons
Inhabitants of this continent
At the time of WWI.
It is an insult to the immigrants
Whose ancestors may have
Fought on the other side
By the hazard of history.
Stop that false patriotic celebration
This is a divisive one
That the nation does not need.

Student digs

Wordle: Student digs
The room is large enough
To contain a double bed
A wardrobe, a desk and two book cases.
The floor is in parquetry
The ceiling is high
The window is the typical
Sash window
The screen is broken
So it's not much use
The blind is wonky
But has been drawn up
And from it hangs a pair of
Purple sheer curtains
There is no heating
 The walls are cracked around
The window and in the corner
At the juncture of the walls
It advances slowly month
By month.
The latest repair carried
By the owners dates from
Two weeks ago on a leak
That was signaled
More than two years ago.
Despite the state of the building
The rent goes up every six months
If the tenants, four students
Don't agree with the increase
They get out.
It's as simple as that.
The real estate agents
Do not do their job
As they describe the property
Being in a adequate condition
Despite the fact that painting
Has not been done in ages
In the kitchen the cupboard doors
Don't fit any more,
There is no dishwasher of course
 Whilst the owners collect more
Than eight hundred dollars
Of rent per week.
And you call that the lucky country
Of milk and honey
Well, may be for some it flows
But don't forget that these
Are your children you are thus treating
I hope for you that your retirement
Investment will last long
So that you won' t need to ask
For their kindness.

The noise of fallen leaves

Wordle: the noise of fallen leaves
Have you heard the noise of falling leaves?
Yes, Autumn is here
Playing with each of them
Giving them for a moment
The illusion of freedom.
How far from their tree
Will they fall before being discarded?
How long will they travel
Enjoying each second to its utmost?
Is freedom worth fighting for with one’s death?
It certainly is, if one is to fight against tyranny,
In the hope the next generation will live in peace.
We shall remember the fallen when celebrating victory.

Australians we are screwed!

Wordle: Australians, we are screwed!
Australians, we are screwed!
It’s been a week now
Our days have been disturbed.
At first the car honking accompanied
By joyous shouting, let us to believe
That is was some kind of Zero week student ritual
Directed towards passing drivers
We put up with it, hour after hour.
Youth will be youth, you know the drill!
Then we realized that it was the nurses defying
The order of Fair Work Australia
Which has ordered them to return to work
And not strike for their workers rights.
Well, it is time, Australians to act
And to remind the politicians
That they have been elected by us to represent us
And not some virtual governmental agencies
Or other corporative entities, global or not.
By not supporting them, the nurses,
We are not claiming our just rights
And then Australians, we'll be screwed!

Australia Day 2012!

http://www.ausflag.com.au/images/ab.gif

Australia Day 2012
Yesterday was a sharp reminder
Of Australia’s illegal tenure
Of the Dreamtime continent.
The constant flow of insults
From the white fellow towards the black fellow
Continues unabated to this day.
The non recognition of the true nature
Of the indigenous society
Through its diverse people,
Drives it to be abused
Under the most irregular existing legislation.
In order to protect its people
Many tribal people in the Northern Territory
Have lost their own financial and parental rights
Under  the durance of military rule.
In a country that flaunts its classless society
To the rest of the world
We find ourselves with a totalitarism regimen
Nestled inside a supposed democracy!
And to this the international press
Remarked on the Cinderella syndrome
Of the Prime Minister losing her shoe
As triviality this is awesome I have to say!
So upset am I that this space is
Today dedicated to Invasion Day
And two hundred and thirty one years
Of dispossession and genocide!
